Cross-Domain Collaboration for Local Impact: CCU and Chiayi City Join Forces to Promote Elderly Health Promotion Project

To address the challenges of a super-aging society and bridge the urban-rural health gap, the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologist Association has actively responded to the "Healthy Taiwan Deep Cultivation Plan" by partnering with National Chung Cheng University (CCU). Together, they have developed the "Multi-module Training and Promotion System," aimed at enhancing the psychological resilience and physical functions of the elderly, fulfilling the vision of holistic, integrated mind-body care.

A launch ceremony was held on the 26th at Chiayi City's "InJoy Gym Studio," which serves as a training ground for medical professionals to engage in field exercises and receive professional guidance. In the future, the project will also collaborate with "Evergreen Garden" (Chang-Ching Yuan) to utilize its resources for training seniors, translating professional knowledge into community-based health actions and expanding the network of local health support.

In the initial stage, the project will prioritize training clinical psychologists and medical professionals from non-psychological backgrounds. Through systematic courses and practical training, the project aims to strengthen their expertise in elderly mental and physical health. Once trained, these professionals will reach out to communities to help residents establish positive health concepts and improve overall health literacy.

Led by the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologist Association, the project integrates the resources of CCU's Department of Psychology, Department of Athletic Sports, Ching-Jiang Center for Continuing Education and Digital Learning, and the Center for Research on Age-Friendly Society. Together, they have developed four core curriculum modules: "Stress Management," "Behavioral Activation," "Exercise Guidance," and "Cognitive Enhancement." These modules are designed for both clinical psychologists and non-psychology professionals, utilizing a hybrid (in-person and online) approach to establish a sustainable mechanism of "training, internship, supervision, and practice."

CCU plays a pivotal role in this project, providing faculty and research support while serving as the central platform for system design and knowledge translation. Faculty from the Department of Psychology and Graduate Institute of Clinical Psychology, the Department of Athletic Sports, and the Center for Research on Age-Friendly Society focus on curriculum design and efficacy evaluation for stress adjustment, behavioral activation, cognitive enhancement, and exercise intervention. Meanwhile, the Ching-Jiang Center is responsible for building the online teaching platform and digital course development to ensure learning effectiveness and broad dissemination.

Regarding implementation, the project has received strong support from the Chiayi City Government’s Social Affairs Bureau. With the assistance of the Evergreen and Social Administration Section, the course modules will be introduced to various community centers in Chiayi City and eventually expanded to grassroots medical facilities such as the Nanchang Clinic in Yunlin County, ensuring that elderly residents in rural areas also benefit from high-quality health promotion resources.

The collaboration between National Chung Cheng University and the Chiayi City Clinical Psychologist Association demonstrates the critical role of academic institutions in promoting elderly health. Supported by various units, the project has established a promotion network that combines cross-domain integration with local practice. By cultivating local roots and actively promoting public health and resilience, CCU not only demonstrates the leadership of University Social Responsibility (USR) but also sets a significant example for achieving the goals of the "Healthy Taiwan" policy, collectively creating a vibrant and healthy life for Taiwan's elderly population.
